Beef Curry (Harak Mas Curry) - TastyPlanner.com

A Sri Lankan beef curry that is full of flavor and easy to prepare.

Ingredients
5 kg (3 lb) stewing beef steak
3 tablespoons ghee or oil
2 large onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh ginger
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
4 tablespoons Ceylon curry powder (see my receipe)
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 teaspoons black mustard seeds
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 fresh red chillies, seeded and chopped (optional)
3 ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped
Instructions
Cut steak into 5 cm (2 inch) squares. Heat ghee in saucepan and gently fry onions, ginger and garlic until just beginning to turn golden, Add curry powder, turmeric, mustard seeds and fry over low heat for 2-3 minutes.
Add salt and vinegar and stir well. Add steak and fry, stirring to coat meat well. Add chillies.
Add tomatoes to slow cooker. Add contents of saucepan into slow cooker. Stir well, and cook for 5 to 6 hours or until beef is tender.
Serve with rice and other accompaniments. If gravy is too thin when meat is tender, either cook gravy in saucepan over high heat, uncovered, until reduced or add corn flour to thicken.
