Korean BBQ or sweetened marinated beef. My girlfriend who doesn’t typically like asian food enjoys this recipe. The two key steps in this are marinating the meat in sugar, and a kiwi in the marinade adding a distinct sweet taste to offset the salty/sour taste. It can be served over rice, or as with veggies/noodles as lettuce wraps.

Ingredients
2 lbs of meat
1 cup soy sauce
3-4 Tbps Sesame oil
1 kiwi
4-6 Tbps Sugar
4-6 dashes Black pepper
1 onion
2-3 cloves garlic minced
1 inch piece of ginger minced (almost optional)
Bunch Green onions (optional)
3-4 Tbps Mirin (cooking rice wine), equal amount to Sesame oil
1-2 Tbps Vinegar (optional)
toasted sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
Cut the meat into thin slices
Put the slices into large mixing bowl and sprinkle sugar over it (2 Tbps).
Mix and beef into sugar with hands. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the marinade. Place onion, and peeled kiwi into blender until liquid.
Mix soy sauce, sugar, black pepper, sesame oil, cooking wine and (optional) – vinegar and sesame seeds. After mixing, taste it to make sure it has a sweet-salty taste (more sweet). If it’s not sweet enough, add more sugar.
Cut green onion into 2 to 3 inch pieces. Put garlic, and (optionally) green onions and ginger into sugar/meat mixture.
Pour both garlic/onion and soy-based sauces into the meat mixture and mix well , using hands or chopsticks. It is important to mix thoroughly so the marinade is evenly distributed throughout the meat. Refrigerate for at least two hours or overnight.
Grill or pan-fry the meat. Serve over rice and/or with lettuce to make lettuce wraps.
