Farina Cookie
Ingredients
½ Lb oleo (margarine)
3/4 cup of evaporate milk
10 oz bag chopped nuts
2 cups warm water
1½ bags yeast
28 oz box of Farina
1 ½ cup sugar
dash salt
1 tsp lemon.
Instructions
1) Melt oleo and let cool.
2) Add yeast to 2 cups warm water.
3) Mix well; Farina, oleo, yeast, milk sugar and salt.
Pour into greased/buttered 9″ × 13″ × 2″ pan no more then 1" thick. Pour extra into a buttered oven pan.
Note: If you use a 1" deep pan. Do not fill it up because the mixture will rise.
4) Add 5 – 10 oz of nuts on top of mixture then press nuts down with fork. Do not mix!
5) Then let stand for 1 hour.
6) Bake at 350 for 1 hour or until brown.
When pan goes into oven do the following:
Syrup
1) In pot add: 1 2/3 cups water, 2 ½ cups sugar and 1 tsp lemon.
2) Bring mixture to boil then lower heat to lowest possible temperature and let boil the entire time mixture is in oven.
When Farina is done cooking:
1) Remove from oven and cut into squares.
2) Syrup should be sticky between fingers.
3) Add all syrup to Farina and let cool.
