Not something I would order off a menu, these burgers won me over. Props to my brother-in-law Ben for giving me the simple, yet delicious recipe!
Recipe Source: Ben May
Ingredients
*Good Hamburger...make a nice big, thin patty.
*Good Hamburger buns... we get ours from the Smith's bakery. Surprisingly good!
*Pickup some good, thinly sliced ham... about as thin as you can get.
*Pineapple from the can...Dole, round whole slices.
*Individual Sandwich cheese slices...seems to oozze the best. Recommend Velveta.
*Lettuce (optional)
*BBQ Sauce of your choice
*Mayo
Instructions
I get the burgers going and when I flip them for the first time I throw on the ham and pineapple to grill on their own…That should get your timing right. 2 full slices of pineapple per burger (off set a bit so each bite gets some) and a stack of ham for each burger. Gently fold the ham into a stack so you can flip without it slipping betweent the grills (usually 1 or two slies per burger). About 1 minute before the burgers will be done a set the buns down on the grill with a touch of butter spread on them. This will give you good grill marks, smokey flavor and a slighly crisp bun to hold the juices in. When ready…I like lettuce on the bottom, then the patty with melted cheese, then the ham, then the pineapple. I smear a nice layer of mayo and then bbq on the top bun press them together and there you go…the perfect Hawaiian burger. Mmmm.
