Farina Cakes with Nut’s
Ingredients
1 – Box (27 ½ oz) Farina
1 – Small pack of Yeast
1 – Tsp Salt
1 – Lb ground nuts
¾ - Cup Sugar
1 – TBS Sugar
butter
Syrup:
1 – Cup Sugar
¼ - Cup of Karo Syrup – White
Dash of salt
Instructions
1) Mix nuts and ¾ cup sugar, then set aside.
2) Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of warm water and then add 1 TBS sugar.
3) In a bowl add Farina, 1 Tsp salt. Make a depression in the center of the Farina.
4) Add yeast mixture and extra warm water to the Farina in the center. With a large spoon mix the water in a stirring motion from the center out, slowly so that no lumps form. Add enough water so that the mixture looks like pancake mix.
5) Cover and let rest until bubbles form on top, about 45 minutes. Keep mixture warm.
6) Stir before baking, mixture should be thick.
7) Bake like pancakes but only on one side. Bubbles form on top and when it looks dry remove and place on tea towel.
8) Fill pancakes with about a soupspoon of nut mixture making sure you do not get mixture on edges.
9) Fold and pinch edges together to seal.
10) Make syrup by mixing Sugar salt water and karo in a pot and cook until syrup forms, just a few minutes.
Note: You can flavor syrup with almond or rose water.
11) Fry cakes with butter until light brown on both sides. Serve with syrup.
Notes: If syrup gets thick, thin with hot water. When baking pancakes you may need to add water if farina gets to thick.
