Macaroni and Cheese - TastyPlanner.com

There is nothing like the creamy goodness of macaroni and cheese made with a white sauce from scratch. It’s easy and delicious.
Ingredients
3 c pasta - my favourite is farfalle, but any kind will do
6 T white flour
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
6 T butter
3 c milk
3 c grated cheddar cheese (approximate amount)
Instructions
Start water boiling for the pasta.
Stir together the white flour, salt, and pepper.
Melt the 6 T butterlike substance in a saucepan.
When melted, remove from heat and stir in flour mixture until smooth.
Gradually stir in milk. Return pan to heat (medium-medium high) and stir CONSTANTLY until mixture begins to thicken.
Somewhere in here you’ll have to double-duty and stir the pasta in and let it cook until just underdone. (It continues to cook in the oven, so if you put it in done, it will come out really mushy. Or maybe you like mushy?) Drain the noodles and put in a greased 9×9ish pan.
When sauce is thick, remove from heat and stir in grated cheddar cheese to taste. Pour over noodles in pan and stir in.
Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes.
NOTES: My dad likes to stir in a can of sliced mushrooms with this. I hate mushrooms, but if you like them, he said it was good.

Ohhh, yummy! A long time favourite of mine and we make it almost identically… not that there’s much you can do with white sauce and cheese :)
Some variations:
- Use skim milk and low-fat cheese for a healthier meal.
- Get a small tin of cooked tuna or salmon and drain it, then mash the fish with a fork until it’s all smooth and stir it through the sauce. It’s a great and fairly cheap way to get protein into the dish! Use fish packed in springwater for healthier.
