Pizza Pudgy Pie - TastyPlanner.com
Chef: Joanielspeak
Pudgy Pies (also called mountain pies) are a fun and versatile camping treat. A pudgy pie iron and a campfire are required for this dish. Traditional pudgy pies are made with pie filling, peanut butter, or other sweet dessert-like ingredients. This is a dinner time pie.
Recipe Source: My dad!
Ingredients
2 Pieces of Bread
2 tbsp butter (or non-stick cooking spray)
1 generous spoonful of pizza sauce
1 handful of mozzarella cheese
5 slices pepperoni or other toppings
Instructions
Butter each piece of bread on one side (or spray inside of pie maker with cooking spray). Place one piece of bread in one half of the cooker with the buttered side out. Place the sauce, cheese, and other goodies in the middle of the bread and place the second piece of bread over the top, buttered side out. Now clamp the cooker together and lock it. Place the cooker in the hot coals and rotate when you think one side is done (1 min if cooker is hot, longer if it is the first pie of the night).
If you don’t feel like pizza, fill with ham and cheese and you get a hot Ham and Cheese Pie. Try peanut butter and jelly for a Hot PBnJ Pie. The variations are endless.

Also known as mountain pies. To prepare the fire, make sure you have plenty of red hot coals and try to bury the pie makers deep in them, surrounded on all sides.
As mentioned, leave it in only about 45 seconds per side when the pie iron is already hot, otherwise it may take a minute to a minute and a half to cook. Campfire cooking is never an exact science, so some experimentation may be necessary.
These are also called Mountain Pies. Did you know that?
“Mountain Pie” is the funniest name ever. I used to make stuff like this but with english muffins when I would get home from school when I was a kid.
