A Southern family classic. No frills required.
Recipe Source: My friend Kami
Ingredients
2 sticks butter or margarine, softened
3 cups granulated sugar
3 cups all purpose flour
6 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 carton (8 oz.) sour cream
1/4 teaspoon baking soda (mix into cream)
Instructions
Start with a cool (not pre-heated) oven.
Grease and flour bundt pan or two loaf pans over the entire inside and sides. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Add sour cream to which the soda was added. Beat until smooth. Add flour one cup at a time, beating after each addition. Add flavorings last. Bake one and one-half hours (90 minutes) at 300 degrees (do NOT pre-heat oven; do NOT open oven door while baking).
Cake should be done when it is brown on top and an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then turn cake out on a cooling rack or plate.
